The Real GMI story.
Today I want to tell you the story the way it actually happened. No marketing, no polished corporate BS. Just the truth, because you deserve it.
Back in 2019, we (two engineers with zero shooting experience) had:
· No track record
· Never owned an airgun
· Never fired a single pellet or slug in our lives
· No idea we would ever end up in tooling
· A shoestring budget and an Excel sheet that said:
“Buy lead at $3/kg → turn it into diabolo pellets → sell at $54/kg = 18× markup”
That Excel sheet made us feel like kings. Reality hit hard.
We had no machines, no blueprints, no old videos that actually showed anything useful, no one selling modern pellet/swaging equipment anywhere on earth. Corbin was doing solid “pellets” (cylinders), legacy manufacturers were sitting on 50-year-old discontinued machines with zero documentation. The market was dead.
So we did what idiots do: we started designing tooling from scratch.
First two years? Pure pain.
Everything failed. Multiple times.
We learned what runout actually costs you, what vibration does at 0.001 mm, which steels live and which die, how heat treatment actually works when textbooks lie, why some measuring instruments are useless for what we needed.
We bought better reamers, better tools, better grinders, better metrology. We threw away mountains of rejected dies and punches. Every single thing you see today is sitting on top of a landfill of failures we paid for with our own money.
We never planned to sell tooling. We just wanted cheap pellets for ourselves.
But people on forums started asking “where did you get that die?” → we sold a few sets → some worked, some didn’t → we fixed or replaced every single one that didn’t. No excuses, ever. – Thanks Soren D.
2020: Matt Dubber starts hammering slugs in the FX Impact, the slug revolution begins, and suddenly the whole world wants slugs. That’s when SOC (Smooth ogive curve) was born. First batches had issues. Again, we fixed or replaced everything. No customer was ever left hanging till date.
COVID ironically became our golden period. Factories shut, but we had time. We designed like madmen, tested, broke stuff, redesigned. Customers kept pre-ordering even when we were honest and said “this might be late or might need a revision.” That trust still brings tears to our eyes.
We delivered during lockdowns.
2020–2022 we became “the slug tooling guys, Who delivered on time.” - (And we still deliver faster then our competitors ;)
FX Sweden started talking to us. South African heavyweights started talking to us. Serious manufacturers on three continents now run our tooling.
The Guys from South East Asia, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia are all crazy fans, Millions of slugs made from tools sold 3 years ago, and still going! Damn! #Respect
Here’s what we’re proudest of:
· 100 % original designs. Every arc, every angle, every tolerance stack — we have the dated drawings and the scrap pile to prove it.
· We never lied, never ghosted, never shipped something we knew was wrong.
· We’re still just two guys , Just stupid stubbornness and a promise that
“if you trust us with your money, we will move heaven and earth to make it right.”
And one more thing that sets us apart:
What we ship is built to outlast every competitor on the market — not because we want to brag, but because we are not afraid to spend whatever it costs on the right steel, the right heat-treat, the right coating, the right everything.
We are not profit-driven. If a part does not meet the standard we can sleep with, we reject it — even if it costs us dearly . We fear God and we trust God. We will never harm anyone knowingly, never cut a corner that could let a customer down. What drives us is pure obsession with the craft — nothing else.
The original dream (our own pellet and slug brand) is still alive. One day it will happen.
We also want to get into brass supply, reloading tools, become a one-stop shop for serious shooters. But everything we do will still be built on the same obsession: machining excellence.
To every single one of you who sent orders to two unknown guys (Ken and Ron) in 2019–2020 when we had nothing but photos of prototypes and a promise — thank you. You changed our lives. You are the reason GMI exists.
We don’t have a fancy buildings or marketing gimmick , or fake facades made of lie.
We just have a fine machining unit with 12 CNC machines , 3 tooling grinding and reamer making units , An Aerospace grade 8 Furnace heat treatment unit, A dedicated surface finishing area, and the same fire that started with that stupid Excel sheet.
GMI – idiots (with real engineering degrees) who refused to quit, guided by faith and an unhealthy obsession with making things perfect.
Thank you for believing in us.
